About Us

Welcome! Alpha Xi Delta inspires women to realize their potential by providing opportunities for Sisterhood, leadership knowledge and service. Since our founding in 1893, we have grown into a strong organization consisting of more than 150,000 initiated members.

The Zeta Xi Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta was colonized in the fall of 1979. Pledging 85 women, the chapter was installed by Betty Steger-Moulton, one of the National Chapter Officers.  The installation Ceremony was held on January 17th, 1980.  Chapter meetings were held in the lower quad until the construction of the new “Hill” Dorms.  Zeta Xi Chapter was officially housed in Dowell Hall and happily shared a dorm with the sisters of Delta Delta Delta.  In August of 2009, all of the Auburn sorority chapters relocated from “The Hill” dorms to “The Village”, Auburn’s premiere residential community.  The chapter now happily resides on the third floor of Oak Hall, which is also home to the sisters of Delta Zeta, Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma and Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Chapter Philanthropy

As of March 2014, the Centers for Disease Control announced that overall autism prevalence rates in the U.S. indicates that 1 in 68 American children are on the autism spectrum.  (An estimated 1 in 42 boys and 1 is 189 girls.)

The Zeta Xi Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta supports our national philanthropic partner, Autism Speaks,  in the Auburn University campus community in a variety of ways.  As the world’s largest researched based autism advocacy organization, Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, to funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism, and to advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

Since our affiliation with Autism Speaks  in 2009, Zeta Xi Chapter has raised over $125,000 through our AmaXIng Challenge Event – Step It Up Alabama.  Sisters also host the annual “Light It Up Blue” Campaign during the first week of April.  Prominent buildings on campus, such as Cater Hall, are illuminated with blue lights as a reminder to the community to take notice of this severly under-funded disorder.  These buildings are just a small part of hundreds of other national prominent building that are lighted in blue to commemorate National Autism Awareness Day.  For more information on Autism Speaks Light It Up Blue Awareness Campaign, see http://liub.autismspeaks.org/welcome

With 1 in 68 children diagnosed with autism and no known cure, Alpha Xi Delta is committed to improving the lives of children and families affected by autism. We hope our fundraising and awareness efforts can help put one more piece of the autism puzzle in place.
